“Use my experiences in competency application to help you achieve greater personal satisfaction and influence others to achieve organizational success.”

Jim Heideman, Ph.D

ATD’s Capability Model is a breakdown of the expanse of knowledge, skills, and abilities that a talent development professional wields in order to positively impact an organization’s performance, productivity, and operational results. This month’s speaker will point out that those KSAs are valuable, but underlying all of them is a set of competencies that will allow you to identify when and how to apply each particular skill or ability.

Join us for a special event featuring local author James Heideman, Ph.D., as he shares key points from his recently published book, "Practically Competent: Navigating Organizational Currents".  He’ll discuss how instructional technology professionals (ITPs) can elevate their careers through what he calls "competency application." With over two decades as an instructional technology professional, Jim brings a wealth of knowledge on how to navigate the complex business environment and achieve exceptional performance.

What To Expect

  1. Impacting Organizational Capability
We'll discuss with Dr. Heideman the lessons learned over 30 years as an Instructional Technology Professional (ITP), which led him to create the competencies hierarchy that could apply to all talent developers seeking to impact organizational capability.
  2. Authors-to-be
We'll also interview Dr. Heideman about the writing process.
Dr. Heideman is the published author of several articles for ATD and AETC. We'll ask about the thought process behind sharing one's professional experiences, and the steps he took to get his book published.

Parking is free
Light snacks to be served
